Probably everyone of us was at a certain point a fan of Michael Jackson's work, so in 2009, after the artists death, we were all saddened and felt that maybe a tribute to the life and work of such an iconic figure was needed.
Creating a mosaic image with the artist seemed appropriate, a mosaic built only with with pictures from concerts and other events where the artist was present.
This was the first thought that came to our minds, but allowing the users to view the pictures contained in the mosaic also seemed appropriate. So the next step was to create a Deep Zoom composition with the all the pictures that we had gathered and rearrange them in order to match each tile's place in the mosaic.
The end result was a mosaic picture of 39600x39600 pixels of about 200MB, that a user could zoom in/out in order to view the containing picture tiles; all with very smooth transitions.
